The mechanical giant General Electric is looking to sell NBC Universal. The move has caught the attention of Comcast as it would kill to have ownership of NBC in their business portfolio.
Why G.E. is making the move is because they would be getting some profit or financial recovery from the many years it has put into NBC Universal by creating new networks like Telemundo, Bravo, and Oxygen.
It really does not look like a bad move by G.E. to let NBC go because they will be getting some money in return for all the years they have put into it. Plus, if they don't really need NBC it might help trim unnecessary spending for G.E. and they can focus on more important projects.
I'm just curious on how Comcast were to manage NBC if they were able to buy it. It's really interesting to see companies who have managed to stay around for decades and now become bought by young companies (at least that's what I think of Comcast).

I definitely would have never imagined that Comcast would get to buy something huge like NBC. It's a really good opportunity for Comcast. I understand why G.E. would want to sell. They will get money from having NBC as long as they did, and they also will get money from their new networks. Overall, it seems like a good move for both Comcast and G.E.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great opportunity for Comcast. I never would have imagined that a cable company like Comcast would be able to buy something like NBC. In the economy right now i think people are just doing whatever they can.
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point. It is hard to imagine that Comcast could possible buy out NBC. Comcast is a newly formed company and it already has the opportunity to buy out a larger company such as NBC.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a good deal for General Electric if they are looking to profit quickly. Comcast has become a pretty big company so I guess I'm really not all that surprised by the move.
ReplyDeleteIf there's money to be made then go forth. Comcast has been around, but not that much. This just shows how great the company is doing if they've got enough money to consider buying NBC.
ReplyDeleteThose few companies that are faring well in the recession, like Comcast seems to be, are going to make over the corporate landscape, while companies like G.E. that were once considered pillars of the American economy may fall by the wayside. This just goes to show you can't bet on anything anymore.
