The Red Commet lives in a Box

Much like Char Aznable (famous Ace pilot for the Principality of Zeon in the japanese anime Mobile Suit Gundam), the Red Box movie rental distributor is bringing a lot of buzz in the movie renting and DVD industry. The Red Box is now seen as a threat because of it's affordability and accessibility to the consumer.

Major companies and organizations are worked up and feel threatened to the point where legal action might be taken but the Red Box does not scare easily as they would throw the legal card on the same play. I wonder how this will play?

  1. I enjoyed reading you blog on redbox. I use redbox atleast 2 or 3 times a week. Its a obession for sure. I do believe that redbox could be hurting DVD sales. I have not bought a DVD in ages. I do not use Blockbuster's anymore do to the fact of late charges, Redbox is great.

  2. I enjoyed reading your blog, it was rather interesting to see how redbox could be hurting dvd sales. I never really thought about it, but honestly with the economy the way it is its no surprise that people would rather use redbox over blockbuster.

  3. The Red Comment, nice!! Loved how you placed Char and the Red Box distributor into the same basket. I've never used Red Box although I've always wanted try it, but now I've a free trial with netflicks for 6 months. Still, I can give this red comment a try!

  4. Very interesting article. I'm not sure about the amine reference;) but I know it will be a heated battle. I think the companies wanting to stop Red Box will have a hard time making a legal argument against renting through the machines. The studios who are concerned about losing money because of Red Box should really save whatever money they might invest in legal battles with that company and fight what will really bring the rental market down: online piraters.
