By now every fan of Marvel comics are still loathing over the solid fact that Disney had purchased Marvel not too long ago. Dread of changes worried the fans to the point where they had to question their dedication if those changes were made. Looks like Marvel fans have something NEW to worry about.
Jack Kirby, one of the creators of many Marvel superhero characters, left a legacy that had a copyright attatchment. When Kirby was still alive he made copyrights on any work he created especially when he worked on projects with others. His children are the inheritants to the rights and the Kirby family had sent notices to Disney to inform them about those rights.
It seems like now Disney may be having second thoughts after the purchase of Marvel because so many other companies have licenses and rights to produce Marvel related projects (i.e. Universal Studios, Paramount, Sony, Fox, etc.). As long as these parties have the important documents or rights; it doesn't look like Disney will be making as much money as they thought before when the company purchased Marvel.
I just find it funny to know that Jack Kirby is still working beyond the grave and making his fans love him even more. Hmm, this sounds like something he would make into a comic book, no?

I'm kind of confused- so shouldn't Marvel fans be happy that Disney is not going to profit off of their purchase as much as they originally thought? Or do they have more to worry about now because so many different companies have rights to the comics that they fear there will be even more change than if it were just Disney that was to take control? Either way, it would truly be a shame if a brand that has been around and remained popular for so long, as Marvel has, lost its following because of something like this.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like Disney won't be getting much out of this deal if there are enough claims brought against them when they try to market the marvel characters. With all of the claims already held by other companies on various Marvel characters, it might be best to drop the buy-out. Maybe Disney could finally come up with something new rather than recycling old characters and stories. Creativity and novelty is what attracted people to Disney in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI think it was stupid on Disney's part to buy out Marvel in the first place. I had a funny feeling that the whole thing wouldn't blow over well after the initial purchase. Marvel is too popular, too much of a big part of Universal/Islands of Adventure, and has too much 'movie distributors' (i.e. like you said, Sony, Paramount, Fox, etc) to allow Disney to just buy them out and take over completely.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of Disney buying Marvel. In my opinion, it sort of ruins what Marvel is and what they are famous for. When I think of the Marvel characters, Disney does not at all come to mind. Why does Disney feel as though they have to own absolutely everything?
