Of Pucks and Pens

The Los Angeles Kings hires a team reporter. Richard Hammond, former reporter for the L.A. Daily News, was hired to report the teams activities for their website. With the current state of newspapers and the economy, more teams are hiring reporters which is more cost effective than the newspaper companies spending money to send on business trip (i.e. away games).

The trend is not so common as other teams in the league and other sports leagues are emulating the idea.

Sports reporters are making the move for financial reasons because the deal they agree to pays more than the newspaper company.

I think it's a good move for everyone. The sports team gets their publicity as usual, the reporter earns more money, and the newspapers saves more money. However, I don't believe that EVERY sports team will do this because there are some that may not have the budget to hire reporters. All I can say is that being a sports reporter in that position just made life even better.

J. Kirby vs W. Disney, Round 1, FIGHT!

By now every fan of Marvel comics are still loathing over the solid fact that Disney had purchased Marvel not too long ago. Dread of changes worried the fans to the point where they had to question their dedication if those changes were made. Looks like Marvel fans have something NEW to worry about.

Jack Kirby, one of the creators of many Marvel superhero characters, left a legacy that had a copyright attatchment. When Kirby was still alive he made copyrights on any work he created especially when he worked on projects with others. His children are the inheritants to the rights and the Kirby family had sent notices to Disney to inform them about those rights.

It seems like now Disney may be having second thoughts after the purchase of Marvel because so many other companies have licenses and rights to produce Marvel related projects (i.e. Universal Studios, Paramount, Sony, Fox, etc.). As long as these parties have the important documents or rights; it doesn't look like Disney will be making as much money as they thought before when the company purchased Marvel.

I just find it funny to know that Jack Kirby is still working beyond the grave and making his fans love him even more. Hmm, this sounds like something he would make into a comic book, no?

First Ric Flair, now Jay Leno....guys, stay retired!

I'm sure everyone here is aware of the return of Jay Leno. There are definitely mixed feelings about his return to prime time television with all the TV Commercials telling you about his new show.

What was interesting about the article is that how it explained some or most marketers use a repetitive tactic to get their product in people's memories. Usually a catchy tune or phrase tends to stick in my memory but what irritates me most is the consistant airing of the same commercial. In the internet world we call this spamming and it WILL get on your nerves. I find myself sometimes yelling at the TV "I GET IT ALREADY! SHUT UP!!" even if my efforts are fruitless.

The Red Commet lives in a Box

Much like Char Aznable (famous Ace pilot for the Principality of Zeon in the japanese anime Mobile Suit Gundam), the Red Box movie rental distributor is bringing a lot of buzz in the movie renting and DVD industry. The Red Box is now seen as a threat because of it's affordability and accessibility to the consumer.

Major companies and organizations are worked up and feel threatened to the point where legal action might be taken but the Red Box does not scare easily as they would throw the legal card on the same play. I wonder how this will play?
